Massage therapy - a small step that brings big results

We all know about Monday morning deliveries after coming off a weekend drive. We wait for that next load assignment as we're either catching up on paperwork, taking a morning snooze, walking the dog, checking in on Facebook, doing some shopping or simply catching some sunshine if the sun is out.
When the weather isn't good, one thing I try to do if I'm close to a mall is join the morning mall walkers. It's a great way of stepping out of the truck and getting some exercise. At many malls, there are also people offering relaxing back massages on inclined benches. How about adding that to your Driver Health checklist?
The history of massage therapy goes back thousands of years. In fact, references to the practice of massage are found in the writings of a number of ancient civilizations. In the United States, only in the last 30 years has massage truly been recognized as helpful for enhancing body performance, healing and overall wellness by a variety of communities, including athletes and physical therapists. As we continue evolving into a more health and wellness-oriented society, the practice of massage therapy is certain to take on an increasingly important role.
For a very affordable price, many of these massage stations in the mall or even at truck stops offer soothing back, shoulder, neck and even foot massages. The benefits are significant, as studies show that not only does a good massage relax tense muscles and work out the “knots,” but it also relieves stress, improves blood circulation, lowers blood pressure, improves alertness and aids digestion (interestingly enough).
After a quality therapeutic massage session, the feeling is incredible! You leave lighter on your feet, your surroundings seem more vivid and colorful, you'll be smiling and you might even have enough time for a restful nap before your next pickup.
If nagging muscle aches have kept you from your exercise routine, then perhaps it's time for that much-deserved therapeutic massage. Put this somewhere near the top of your Driver Health checklist. Don't be surprised – it may very well warm you up for some exercise after!
