Free health awareness walk at MATS
The Health Awareness Walk is the first-of-its-kind fitness event to be held in the trucking industry, and there’s no better place to kick it off than at the Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville, KY. Drivers who are thinking about getting fit, wanting to stay healthy or looking for tips to enhance their workouts are invited to join their fellow drivers, along with Bob Perry, “The Trucker Trainer,” on a 1.5 mile walk on Friday, March 26, at 8 a.m. There is no cost, but registration is required. Registrants will receive walk packets while supplies last, with health information and giveaways. Visit driverhealth.org today!
Sadly, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the average age of death for a truck driver is 61 years, 16 years younger than that for the average American. With those startling statistics, leaders in the trucking industry are working hard to make personal health and fitness a larger concern for all truckers. “61+” is the walk’s logo, and it is designed to motivate all drivers to start exercising today, one step at a time, living a longer and healthier life!
As of press time, the Health Awareness Walk is sponsored by Airtab, Carroll Fulmer Logistics Corporation, Driver HEALTH magazine, the Healthy Trucking Association of America, Landstar Transportation Logistics, Marten Transport, the Mid-America Trucking Show, Quality Carriers, RAMP Media Group, Roadside Medical Clinic + Lab, Trucking Solutions Health Group and U.S. Xpress.
“This is a plea from driver to driver to get outside of your truck and work toward a healthier lifestyle,” said Linda Caffee, professional driver and chairman of the Trucking Solutions Health Group. “We are all in this together! This walk provides everyone with the opportunity to receive support from your fellow drivers and get on the road to better health.”
The Trucking Solutions Health Group helps trucking professionals lead a healthier life-style while out on the road through exercise and nutrition. They have regularly scheduled live interactive discussions to share tips and information with each other and others. Members of the Trucking Solutions Health Group are credited for suggesting the walk to sponsors and assisting in the planning of the event.
The Health Awareness Walk is a fun, non-competitive 1.5-mile course for anyone associated with the trucking industry. Regis- tration is free and available online at driverhealth.org. Walkers can also register on site beginning at 7 a.m., March 26. Walkers can attend a warm-up and a cool-down before and after the walk with Bob Perry.
